Hajji Imran Muluga has called on Muslims and the wider community to promote peace, unity and socio-economic transformation during this year’s Eid al-Adha celebrations.
Speaking shortly after Eid prayers held at Soroti Sports Grounds, the Soroti Resident District Commissioner congratulated Muslims upon successfully marking the important Islamic festival and urged citizens to remain peaceful during what he described as a challenging period.
“To all Muslim brothers and the rest of the world, Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,” he said.
Muluga explained that the Islamic greeting symbolized peace and harmony, especially during difficult times, including public health concerns such as Ebola.
“That is a word of peace, a resolution to be peaceful during this very challenging time of Ebola,” he noted.
The RDC also conveyed greetings from President Yoweri Museveni and congratulated newly appointed ministers announced by the government.
“We want to congratulate our Muslim President, the leadership, and indeed also congratulate the honourable ministers who were appointed yesterday,” he said.
Muluga described the turnout at Soroti Sports Grounds as impressive, saying thousands of Muslims gathered to celebrate Eid al-Adha, commonly known as the “Big Eid.”
“It has been a revelation at Soroti Sports Grounds when Muslims have turned up in big numbers to celebrate Eid al-Adha,” he said.
He further revealed that Muslim visitors and partners from Turkey had joined the celebrations and supported the community during the festivities.
“We are happy that our Muslim brothers from Turkey have come in big numbers,” he added.
According to the RDC, three major centres had been prepared for the slaughtering of animals as part of the Eid sacrifice tradition, with meat expected to be shared among Muslims and vulnerable members of the community.

“We have three very big centres where animals are going to be slaughtered, and it is our prayer that Muslim brothers and other brethren will partake,” he said.
Muluga used the occasion to rally Ugandans to engage in productive economic activities aimed at improving household incomes and supporting education for children.
Delivering President Museveni’s message to the congregation, the RDC emphasized that the country’s focus remains on socio-economic transformation.
“The President wishes you a happy Eid and victory, but he is also encouraging all citizens to engage in productive activities that improve livelihoods and enable parents to support their children in school,” Muluga said.
He added that sustainable economic empowerment would help communities overcome poverty and improve living standards across the country.
The Eid al-Adha prayers in Soroti attracted Muslims from across the Teso sub-region, local leaders, religious clerics, and invited guests who gathered to mark one of the most significant celebrations on the Islamic calendar.
