Soroti City —  Vice President Rt. Maj. Jessica Alupo Epel on Tuesday re-energised the National Resistance Movement (NRM) campaign to oust the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) from Soroti City, urging residents to abandon opposition politics and rally behind the ruling party.

Speaking at a campaign rally for NRM parliamentary candidate David Calvin Echodu at Nakatunya Primary School in Soroti City West, Alupo called on the people of Nakatunya and the wider city to “depart from the opposition and return home to NRM,” saying the ruling party was best placed to deliver development.

She thanked voters for supporting Echodu’s election to the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) and appealed to them to “complete the job” by voting him into Parliament as Member of Parliament for Soroti City West.

“NRM has delivered and will continue to deliver. Soroti City is the face of government programmes in Teso and the cradle of the sub-region.

It is time for Soroti to fully return to NRM so that the people can benefit more from government programmes,” Alupo said.

The Vice President highlighted several achievements and ongoing government interventions in Soroti City, including the construction of one of the  best markets, the establishment of Soroti Blood Bank, and the rollout of wealth creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.

She also pointed to key infrastructure projects planned by the government, including the tarmacking of  Soroti–Serere– Ochapa Ngora – Kumi road, saying these projects would further boost trade and service delivery in the city and surrounding districts.

Alupo urged voters to support all NRM flag bearers in the city, naming Isaac Orego for Soroti City East, Sarah Inachu for Woman Member of Parliament, Francis Esudu for Soroti City Mayor, and John Enomu for Soroti City West Division Mayor.

“Do not scatter your votes. There are many opposition parties, but the time is now for NRM. Vote NRM flag bearers at all levels,” she emphasized.

Drawing comparisons with neighbouring districts, Alupo noted that although Katakwi has parties like UPC, DP and FDC, they still overwhelmingly vote President Yoweri Museveni and NRM calling on Soroti City residents to do the same and align fully with the ruling party.

NRM National Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region and Soroti City West MP aspirant David Calvin Echodu reiterated his commitment to work with the  government to lobby for development and improved service delivery in the city if elected to Parliament.

Meanwhile, Teddy Acham, an NRM mobiliser, appealed to the Vice President to engage President Museveni on the growing number of independent candidates in Soroti, whom she said were causing confusion within the party.

“The Kampala team is bringing confusion, yet NRM was progressing well on the ground. There is an urgent need to address the issue of independents,” Acham said.

Soroti city has for long been dominated by Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) with NRM performing dismally and President museveni Losing in the previous elections.
