Protests Erupt in Amuria as Police Deploy, Launch Investigations into Deadly Political Clashes.

Heavy police deployment and mounting protests marked Wednesday morning in Apaasi Village, Ogongora Sub-county, Orungo County, Amuria District, following a deadly politica confrontation that left one person dead and several others nursing gunshot wounds.
Residents early Wednesday gathered at the crime scene, staging protests and demanding justice as police moved in to secure the area and kick off investigations.
Demonstrators carried placards appealing to President Yoweri Museveni to intervene, with messages reading “Save us from political violence,” “Stop killing voters,” “Gen Jeje Odongo is a killer,” and “UPDF, why are you killing us?”
The protesters stood behind East Kyoga Regional Police Commander (RPC) Ibrahim Saiga, who was on the ground overseeing security operations and evidence collection.
Police officers cordoned off the scene and recovered spent cartridges and other exhibits, which have been secured to support ongoing investigations.
The protests follow violent clashes on Tuesday night between supporters of rival parliamentary candidates — General Jeje Odongo and Teddy Anyuk.
The confrontation occurred at a trading centre in Ogongora Sub-county.
One person, Saidi Eteru, a resident of Orungo (Aridi) and an alleged agent of NRM flag bearer Teddy Anyuk, was shot dead during the chaos.

Authorities say three other victims are in critical condition, while seven more sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving treatment at health facilities within and outside the district.
Eyewitnesses say tensions escalated after rival groups played music simultaneously from competing sound systems, triggering verbal confrontations that later turned violent.
Residents allege that police were alerted but delayed in responding and that gunshots were fired during efforts to disperse the crowds.
Amuria Resident District Commissioner Paul Eseru confirmed the death and injuries, stating that security agencies are investigating the matter.

“Investigations are ongoing, and we appeal to the public to remain calm as security restores order and establishes responsibility,” Eseru said.
