Soroti — Frederick Angura, the Member of Parliament for Tororo County South, has called on leaders from the Teso sub-region to work together in identifying and advancing key priorities that will accelerate development in the region.

In an interview with Skika Daily News, shortly after the ICU  breakfast meeting at Soroti Hotel on Saturday,  Angura said “I want to thank His Highness and the entire cultural institution, as well as the technical leadership of the Prime Minister, for convening this engagement,” Angura said.

He explained that the meeting was intended to bring together elected leaders before the full rollout of activities of the 12th Parliament so that they could discuss issues affecting the region and develop a coordinated approach to addressing them.

“We are all elected leaders, and I am happy that we have gathered here today as a family. Even though not all members managed to attend, it is important that we have started this conversation,” he noted.

Angura said several leaders were unable to attend due to overlapping engagements, including a prayer event organized by religious leaders in Bukedi to congratulate Yoweri Museveni on his successful re-election as President of Uganda.

Despite the challenges, the legislator emphasized that such engagements would continue and would attract more leaders from across the region.

He stressed the importance of aligning the five-year strategic development plan of the Iteso Cultural Union with the government’s national development framework to ensure that Teso benefits from national programs.

“We have heard the strategic development plan presented by the cultural institution and also the national development plan of government. We need to synchronize these initiatives so that we can attract the attention of leaders at different levels and partner with government to reignite development in the region,” he said.

Angura, who also serves as the outgoing cultural affairs coordinator in the Teso Parliamentary Group, welcomed the participation of LC5 chairpersons, noting that their involvement would strengthen development efforts at the grassroots.

“I am happy that LC5 leaders who supervise districts at the grassroots are also part of this discussion. Working together with government and communities will help us move forward as one family,” he said.

He also encouraged district leaders to utilize local ordinances to address community challenges without always waiting for directives from the central government.

“Sometimes you don’t need to wait for the central government to ignite best practices. District councils can pass ordinances that bring order and cohesion within communities,” Angura added.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by the Iteso Cultural Union to unite political, cultural, and administrative leaders around a common agenda aimed at transforming the Teso sub-region.
