Soroti city  — Ugandan stand-up comedian Emma Napoleon has called for stronger enforcement of copyright laws, highlighting their importance in protecting creatives, particularly comedians and musicians.

Speaking in a recent interview, Napoleon noted that many entertainers in Uganda still rely heavily on live performances as their main source of income.

He said effective implementation of copyright laws would allow artists to also earn from recorded content, creating more sustainable revenue streams.

Napoleon emphasized that comedians are especially vulnerable because their content quickly loses value once jokes are widely shared.

He raised concern over unauthorized reposting of comedy material on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, where individuals often profit without compensating the original creators.

Napoleon argued that proper enforcement would help curb such practices and ensure artists benefit from their work.

However, he expressed concern over the country’s ability to implement laws effectively, noting that many policies fail at the enforcement stage.

At the same time, Napoleon is promoting comedy in the Teso region through a major Easter event.

He is organizing a show on Easter sunday featuring Dr. Hilary Okelo at Hyde Park, where the comedian will deliver an extended performance.

The event, Dr. Hilary Live, is part of Napoleon’s The King Comes Home initiative aimed at bringing quality entertainment to his home community.
