Bukedi Regional Secondary School Games Kick Off Amid Tight Scrutiny and Early Draws.
By Ambrose Wanagoli.
The Bukedi Regional Secondary School Games officially kicked off on Tuesday at Busolwe Secondary School in Butaleja District, following the arrival of participating teams a day earlier.
The opening matches were largely characterized by draws, reflecting a highly competitive start to this year’s tournament.
According to Bukedi Regional Sports Officer Dominic Maloba, a total of 61 schools were successfully registered after undergoing a rigorous verification process aimed at ensuring compliance with competition regulations.
However, the tournament faced an early setback when St. Peter’s High School Amusala’s boys’ team was disqualified on Tuesday morning. Maloba, who also serves as Chairperson of the Bukedi Secondary Sports Association, revealed that the team fielded overage players who lacked proper identification within the national education system.
The discrepancies were reportedly confirmed by an Information Technologist attached to the Ministry of Education and Sports.
A formal letter has since been issued to the school’s headteacher seeking an explanation over the matter.
Despite the incident, the games proceeded smoothly in a calm and well-organized environment. Several teams battled it out in tightly contested matches, with notable results from the opening day including:
Hill View Bulangila 1 Kadama 0
Tororo Mixed 1 Kagumu Secondary School 0
St. Peter’s Tororo drew 2-2 with Kamwonkoli College
Alliance High School 1 Kasodo Secondary School 1
TOPA 1 Kasodo 0
Busaba Seed School and Busia Secondary School played to a goalless draw
St. Peter’s College Tororo shared a 1-1 draw with Busaba Seed School
Hosts Busolwe Secondary School drew 0-0 with Riverside
Busolwe Students Centre dominated Ezera Memorial 3-0
TOPA secured another win, defeating Butebo Secondary School 2-0
Security at the venue remains tight, with minimal interference from the surrounding community, helping to maintain a conducive atmosphere for players and officials.
This year’s tournament marks a historic milestone for Butaleja District, which is hosting the Bukedi regional games for the first time.
The achievement has been credited to the efforts of Musa Kasajja Higenyi, headteacher of Busolwe Secondary School and chairperson of the district’s sports association.
