Faithful Urged to Support Widows and Honor the Dead Through Prayer.

Christians have been encouraged to extend support to widows, orphans, and the elderly while maintaining a strong culture of praying for the departed in accordance with Jesus’ teachings.

Fr. Gaetano Ochieng, parish priest of Mulagi Parish in Butaleja District, delivered this message during a memorial Mass held on Saturday at Buwihula Village in Busaba Town Council.

The Mass was offered in remembrance of the late Benedict Wanagoli, his siblings, and their deceased children.

In his homily, Fr. Ochieng emphasized that supporting the needy goes beyond material assistance. He noted that offering peace of mind and making regular visits are equally meaningful acts of compassion.

He added that memorial Masses play an important role in strengthening family unity and preserving cherished memories of loved ones. Fr. Ochieng also urged parents to prioritize educating their children as a pathway to a brighter future.

The priest commended the Wanagoli family for organizing the memorial service smoothly, attributing their coordination to the strong educational foundation laid by their late father.

Benedict Wanagoli, a former school headteacher, passed away on April 14, 2020. He is survived by 16 children, including Mrs.

Peter Guloba, a retired accountant with Tororo Local Government; Frederick Wanagoli, a retired headteacher; Stephen Wanagoli, an agriculture officer; Nyumba Charles, chairperson of the Butaleja District Headteachers Association among others.
