Tororo — Plans to establish a Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) club and school in Tororo and the wider Bukedi sub-region are underway, following a second engagement meeting held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Amagoro B, the proposed site.

The meeting was hosted by  Obbo Paul and chaired by Lambert Okure Drata, the Branch Director and Principal of the Jinja Campus.

Obbo Paul said the initiative aligns with both national and local government priorities and will work closely with cultural institutions to promote development.

He noted that the YMCA club aims to address unemployment across all categories by equipping both skilled and unskilled individuals with practical opportunities, describing it as a unifying platform for community development. He also urged residents, especially the media, to support and popularize the initiative.

Drata Okure highlighted the YMCA’s background in Uganda, noting that the Jinja team is spearheading efforts to establish the Tororo branch. He called on the 23 registered members to mobilize more people, targeting at least 200 members to enable the full establishment of the school.

He further encouraged early rollout programs such as cake-making training and computer literacy for the elderly, emphasizing that skills development is key to progress, citing countries like Korea, Canada, and China as examples.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament-elect Shyam Tanna, through a representative, pledged full support to the initiative, noting that it comes at a critical time when the people of Tororo need such services.
