The manager of The Transformation Child Development Centre under Compassion International, Emmanuel Odongo Oundo, has raised concern over the increasing cases of defilement in Butaleja District, urging parents to closely protect their children during the ongoing school holidays.

Speaking to journalists at his office in Busolwe on Wednesday, Odongo revealed that several defilement cases have recently been reported in Busolwe Town.

He condemned the growing tendency among some parents to negotiate compensation instead of seeking justice for their daughters, thereby exposing them to early and unsafe marriages without proper care from their husbands.

Odongo called for stricter supervision of children during the holiday period, warning against careless movements and unnecessary visits by young people.

He advised parents to encourage children to spend more time revising their books and helping with domestic and garden work instead of engaging in risky behavior.

He also cautioned parents against allowing children unrestricted access to smartphones and social media platforms such as TikTok, saying the trend is contributing to moral decay among the youth.

The manager’s concerns were echoed by headteachers from Butaleja Winners Nursery and Primary School, Maron Learning Centre, Mango Groove Junior School and Mugulu Integrated Primary School, who similarly discouraged children’s access to smartphones, especially for TikTok usage during the holidays.
