Bugalo Clan of the Banyole Tribe Sets Date for Electing Leaders Ahead of Coronation
By Ambrose Wanagoli
The Royal Clan of Bugalo in Butaleja District has announced plans to elect new leadership as preparations intensify ahead of the anticipated coronation activities within the Bunyole Cultural Institution.
Speaking to members of the clan, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Magid Buyeha, popularly known as Walayi Walayi, said the nomination exercise officially began on May 4 and will run until May 30.
He noted that elections are scheduled to take place on June 4 at Lwamboga in Nawanjofu Sub-county.
Buyeha explained that the current leadership term lasts five years, a tenure that outgoing Bugalo Clan President Akim Waligwa has successfully completed.
He praised the Bugalo clan for maintaining unity and avoiding leadership wrangles that have affected some other clans in the region.
According to Buyeha, the existence of multiple self-proclaimed clan presidents in some communities has contributed to cultural disorder and increased cases of incest in Bunyole.
He further emphasized the historical significance of the Bugalo clan, saying many clan leaders draw cultural knowledge and strength from it due to its royal heritage.
Bugalo is regarded as one of the royal clans within the Bunyole Cultural Institution, alongside the Mubengho and Bulwa clans.
The leadership programme comes at a time when efforts to have the Bunyole Cultural Institution officially gazetted are gaining momentum, a move expected to strengthen the institution and enable it to benefit the people directly.
On Thursday, Apollo Lyada, the Prime Minister in the faction, aligned to Prof. Chomi expressed optimism that the gazettement process would soon be achieved.
However, another faction formerly led by the late Martin Hayinja, now under Eddie Wamusha, recently carried out major cabinet reshuffles.
The faction accuses Prof. Chomi, the Bunyole Cultural Leader, of moving too slowly in pushing for the gazettement of the institution
