Hon Sanjay Tanna Dismisses Dual Citizenship Claims, Outlines Vision for Trade Ministry

KAMPALA — Hon. Sanjay has dismissed speculation regarding his citizenship status, stating that he holds only a Ugandan passport and does not possess dual citizenship as alleged by some sections of the public.
Addressing the media at Parliament shortly after a successful vetting session, Sanjay said members of the vetting committee asked him a wide range of questions, including concerns about his citizenship.
“I explained to the committee that I only hold a Ugandan passport and do not have dual citizenship as has been speculated,” he said.
Sanjay noted that he also elaborated on the roles and responsibilities attached to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, providing details on the various dockets under the ministry and how they are interconnected
He told journalists that he explained the strong linkages between cooperatives, industry, and trade, emphasizing that cooperatives will play a central role in driving economic growth.
“Cooperatives will be key, especially in boosting agricultural production. If cooperatives are strengthened, they will produce enough to supply the industrial sector,” he said.
According to Sanjay, a stronger industrial sector would, in turn, create more agro-based industries capable of adding value to agricultural products.
He added that the trade docket would then be responsible for securing markets for these products both locally and internationally.
The businessman and entrepreneur demonstrated a firm understanding of the ministry’s mandate during the vetting process, showcasing his expertise and vision for the sector.
His appointment has generated optimism among traders, business people, and industrialists, many of whom believe that his private-sector experience could translate into practical and tangible reforms within the ministry.
