Police Say They Have No Information on Amuria Woman MP Margaret Etilu’s Alleged Arrest.

Police have said they have no verified information regarding reports that Amuria District Woman Member of Parliament Margaret Etilu was arrested during a security operation reportedly conducted at the residence of Speaker of the 11th Parliament Anita Among.
The reports, which remain unconfirmed, have sparked concern among political observers, family ,voters , activists, and members of the public, with many seeking clarification from security agencies about the legislator’s whereabouts and status.
Responding to inquiries on the matter, Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke said authorities had not yet received verified information regarding Etilu’s alleged arrest.
“I have no information about the Amuria Woman MP at the moment. I cannot comment without verification. If I get the information, I will inform you,” Rusoke said.
His remarks come amid growing speculation following widespread reports that Etilu may have been detained during a security operation linked to the speaker’s residence.
However, no official statement has been issued by police or any other security agency confirming or denying the reports.
The lack of clarity from authorities has fueled public anxiety, with civil society actors and political commentators calling for transparency and timely communication.
They argue that when reports emerge involving the alleged arrest or detention of an elected representative, the public deserves prompt and accurate information.

Who is Margaret Etilu?
Margaret Etilu is the Woman Member of Parliament for Amuria District. She was elected to Parliament on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket and has been actively involved in advocating for issues affecting women, youth, and vulnerable communities in the Teso sub-region
