Kaberamaido County Member of Parliament Alfred Edakasi has raised concerns in Parliament over the exclusion of key road projects in Kaberamaido District from the 2026/2027 national budget.

Speaking during a parliamentary session chaired by Anita Among, Edakasi questioned why critical infrastructure—particularly roads—had not been prioritized despite previous approvals by both Cabinet and Parliament

The legislator highlighted the dire state of road infrastructure in Kaberamaido, noting that the district reportedly lacks even a single tarmac road. He expressed disappointment that projects such as the katine –  Ochero Road, which had earlier been approved, continue to face delays and alleged irregularities in the procurement process.

“This particular road has been riddled by corruption,” Edakasi said, pointing to repeated failed attempts to award a contractor.

He cited instances in the previous year and early 2026 where procurement processes were halted due to whistleblower claims, yet no investigation reports have been made public.

Edakasi also raised concerns about ferry services linking Kaberamaido to neighboring regions, emphasizing that the district has a high number of ferry users travelling toward Busoga and Kampala.

He criticized the government’s failure to provide adequate housing for ferry workers on the Kaberamaido side despite earlier commitments.

While acknowledging recent interim measures—such as renting accommodation for ferry staff—the MP argued that permanent infrastructure should have been clearly reflected in the upcoming budget.

Speaker Anita Among echoed the concerns, agreeing that infrastructure gaps in districts like Kaberamaido require urgent attention. She underscored the importance of equitable development, particularly in underserved areas that continue to lag behind in basic services.

The debate adds to growing scrutiny over Uganda’s national budgeting process, with legislators increasingly calling for transparency and fair allocation of resources across districts.
