Police Probe Death of 3-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Killed by Father in Tororo

TORORO — Territorial Police in Tororo District are investigating the suspected murder of a three-year-old girl allegedly committed by her father in Paloto A Cell, Magola Sub-county.
The suspect has been identified as Othieno Vincent, 21, a resident of the same village. The deceased is Akongo Dorcas, a three-year-old girl.
According to preliminary police reports, the incident occurred on the evening of June 1, 2026.
It is alleged that the child accidentally cut her father on the leg with a slasher while he was asleep in his grass-thatched house, causing a serious injury and bleeding.
Police say that in response, Othieno allegedly assaulted the child and forced an avocado fruit into her mouth, leaving her critically injured.
Neighbors reportedly intervened and rushed the child to Tororo General Hospital for medical treatment. However, she later succumbed to her injuries.
The Bukedi South Regional Police spokesperson, Moses Mugwe, confirmed the suspect’s arrest and detention as investigations continue.
Mugwe condemned the act, warning that individuals who engage in violence will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He further urged members of the public who are struggling with anger, stress, or emotional challenges to seek help from counselors, health workers, or trusted community leaders before situations escalate into violence.
The body of the deceased has been taken for a postmortem examination as police continue with inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident
