Police in Butaleja District have arrested two spray operators for allegedly selling Actellic chemicals meant for Indoor Residual Spray to local farmers.

The suspects were apprehended on Wednesday afternoon, just a day after authorities issued a stern warning against the illegal sale of government-supplied chemicals.

Henry Isogoli, the Assistant District Health Officer, confirmed the arrests but declined to reveal the identities of the suspects. He said the two were handed over to Butaleja Central Police Station.

“We shall ensure they are taken to court to account for their actions,” Isogoli stated.

He further warned that Actellic chemicals are hazardous to human life, especially when misused or consumed directly.

According to the health official, some farmers reportedly spray the chemicals on food crops such as cabbages, tomatoes, and watermelons

Isogoli urged residents to support the ongoing indoor residual spraying exercise, which is being conducted alongside malaria screening and vaccination campaigns spearheaded by Village Health Teams (VHTs).

The initiative is aimed at reducing malaria infections across the district.

Efforts to obtain a comment from police authorities by press time were unsuccessful. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
